It’s that time of year again where many of us throw out the old, to make room for the new growth of spring. A good spring clean is not only useful, but a good cathartic cleanse for the soul. To maximise your cleaning’s effectiveness and minimise your environmental impact, we’ve thrown together a few of our favourite tips…
Back to Basics:
Zero Waste Cleaning: When throwing out old clothing, remember to regift or send to your local charity shop. If they are not suitable, remember old clothes are perfect to cut up and repurpose into cleaning rags.
Cleaning Products: Cleaning products don’t have to be throw-away items. Reuse old spray-cleaners as plant misters. Equally our Bamboo Dish Brush with Replaceable Head means you can scrap the inevitable plastic waste and clean with an even cleaner conscience.
Cleaning Tools: In fact, we have a whole range of bamboo cleaning tools, with replaceable components. Bamboo is not only decomposable, but fast-growing and self-cultivating: far more sustainable than plastic and wooden cleaning tools. Shop our range here.
Cleaning - Sustainable Solutions:
Homemade cleaning solutions lack harmful chemicals and are equally effective: they won’t harm the environment (or your bank balance).
For an effective cleaning solution which can be stored for up to three weeks, mix either:
Lemon juice and bicarbonate of soda
Equal parts water and white vinegar, with citrus rind and rosemary
Store these in one of our Boston Glass Bottles, for effective storage and application, via their mist diffuser. These hand-made natural solutions can be used for up to three weeks!
Cleaning your Washing Machine:
Clean your washing machine by mixing bicarbonate of soda with vinegar and putting the machine on its hottest wash setting.
Before starting the cycle, reuse and repurpose your old toothbrush to scrub away any residue on the inside of the draw.
Looking for a toothbrush holder? We sell beautiful ceramic pots in our Wave Ceramic Range.
When spring cleaning, remember the words of William Morris:
“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful”.
Once you have successfully reorganised, decluttered and (hopefully) recycled, our website has many beautiful and useful products that we hope will fill your home with joy for many years to come. Browse them on our website!
